Renee and I rode the edible pedal together a couple of weekends ago. It was the first one and supported local foods in our communities, so a perfect match for bicycling which is local energy spent (usually) in our community. The trail started at Bowers Mansion, wound to Carson, really wound through Carson, and then Jack's Vally Road to Genoa for us 50 milers. Hundred milers continued up Kingsbury Grade and back down Highway 50. The signage and trail markers were easy to follow. This was my first time riding in an organized ride like this (I volunteered at one in Florida), and it was really fun, even though Renee and I got a bit of a late start, so never really rode with people that much. The rest stops were awesome, especially Carson City's with bike maintenance (which we needed) and tons of local food including delicious white carrots, lots of locally made bars, and tons of general goodness. Needless to say, my ride mantra was "I'm putting the pedal to the edible." The ride followed a great route and it was an amazingly beautiful day. The end of ride dinner was superlative, the only problem was that the plate was too small. I think it's rude to not at least try a bit of everything and so my plate was staggering. I made it through pretty much the whole mountain though, and Renee and I relaxed on the grass and finished up our beers (at least 6 options, with 3 brewers—Great Basin, Silver Peak, and Buckbean: we had Buckbean Orange Blossom and Silver Peak Cream Ale with our drink tokens) and then hit the road back to Reno and the rest of our Sunday. Definitely will do it again next year!
