Winter Tule Peaking

The summit
Finally made it up Tule Peak! This shitty, depressing, water-less winter has led to great desert hiking, as much as I can get out. Deep in the dry winter I got out my Basque hiking buddy, Imanol, and my old buddy Mike to finally get up Tule Peak, the high point in the Virginia Mountains (not to be confused with the Virginia Range), the highest peak to the west of Pyramid until you get to Peavine and the Sierra front (although I suppose where we're at it's more apt to speak of the Sierra's backside.

We parked pretty much as close to big main ridge of the peak as we could and then went straight up. It didn't offer that much in the way of variation, but as soon as we broke the main ridge of the massif we have terrific views of Pyramid Lake to the east. On the way down we dropped into the big rocky canyon below the peak (which I had hiked on before), and the walk out was more or less uneventful beyond some wild horses. We arrived back at the Subaru just as the winter shadow of Dogskin Mountain fell over us.

This whole approach was burned over, leaving lots of skeleton shapes
