Clayton Lake State Park, New Mexico

Welcome home travelers, turtle we found in the road.

Across the panhandle of Oklahoma clouds thickened and it seemed we were ready for a plains thunderstorm, but as soon as we crossed the border into New Mexico at Clayton the sky cleared. We saw a mesa, a genuine mesa in the distance, and the beginnings of hills. Somehow the imaginary line frontier was a real line, and we were in the west again.

On our way into town for groceries.

We love the west!

Family portrait, with dinosaur tracks.

Relaxing in the rocks at our camp.

  1. That was an awesome moment, coming into the golden sun of New Mexico (I think I'll always have that image in my head) and seeing some real elevation change. Camping at Clayton Lake was great too. It was so amazing to be back in the west and I'm glad the first place we entered the west to was in NM.
