A New Commute
I’m breaking into the new year with a brand new bike commute. Renee and I have moved from the university’s shadow to among the landed gentry on South Lakeside. It is awesome, we love having some space for Bodie, planting, we love our new tiny apartment where we can’t accumulate any crap, and I love having a real bike ride on my way to work! The beginning section is one of the more popular sport rides in the area: Huffaker Ranch-Lakeside windy hill, on the weekends it is crowded with the lycra-clad. Then the long straight stretch of Lakeside, Virginia Lake, Virginia Street, downtown and up to the university. Eight miles each way, about 35-45 minutes down. A nice market right before Windy Hill where I can stop for some Rogue Dead Guys on the way home. It adds a layer of complexity, but makes me much more happy than my coast down the hill from the university neighborhood.
To celebrate, I’m going to try to start blogging again, but am not going to limit myself only to biking, but am going to expand to writing about my life: Bodie, Coco, Dusty; living in Reno; editing and books; and whatever else I feel like writing about.
Hey, we are moving to Lakeside this week! Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get to see you whiz by. Or you can stop and get some eggs in a few months 'cause we're gonna get some CHICKENS! Or a beer or bathroom break!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you have a blog and a place for your beautiful pictures to be displayed properly!
